So I don't know if you guys were aware, but Christmas was like... four days ago? Well guess what I got for Christmas? Kind of the best thing ever: a trip to Disney Land. Can I tell you how happy I was? When I found out it was basically all I could do to act like a normal human. I must say, after years and years and years of practice of containing my excitement about things, I'm getting pretty good at it. So yes, I contained myself, and we went to Disney Land.
As a result of going to Disney Land two days after Christmas, half of the population of this wonderful planet decided to show up in Anaheim California. I'm serious though. The mass of humanity was like nothing I've ever seen before. The gates closed around noon because Disney Land was declared full. FULL. The first ride I went on had a 2 hour wait. There is something to be said for the geniuses that decide where those lines go. I applaud you, whoever you are. you can never see all of the line and you never stay in one spot for too long. You are constantly moving, but the line never actually runs out of room to weave in and out. It amazed me. We could have watched a whole movie in the time we were in line, but since we were constantly moving, and there were new things to look at at every turn, we were fine and hand philosophical conversations about authors who write inspirational biographies.
Now, for those of you who don't know, there is a very large courtyard between security and the gates of Walt himself. That courtyard is made of hexagonal bricks with the names of the thousands and thousands of people who made the happiest place on earth possible. Here's the thing though. As we were standing in line to cross those magical gates, I just happened to look down to read the name of (drum roll) the wonderful Mr. Tom Hanks (and family). It could be just a coincidence and someone else in the world is named Tom Hanks and wife Rita donated enough for a brick in the Disney gate courtyard, but some how I don't think so. I mean, how lucky is that?! Out of the thousands of bricks, I just happened to look down and see Woody. Then it started to get a bit creepy. We saw Saving Mr. Banks two days previously (phenomenal movie, by the way). We had a conversation about him in the car on the way to Disney Land. We parked in the Woody Parking lot. I looked down and saw his brick. We get in there and this amazingly talented man paints my name and forms Woody into the first letter of my name. My favorite Disney character for the longest time has been Woody. Woody was everywhere. I feel like all of this has been building up for a long time now. Maybe Woody is a sign that my life is going in the right direction or something. I was half convinced by the end of the day that Tom Hank's birthday was on December 27th. Unfortunately it isn't, but it could be.
So you know how when you go to Disney Land as a kid and everything is just so magical and wonderful? I expected that to fade over time and was hugely disappointed. I don't know, maybe I just love it all too much and I refuse to let it go, but I love Disney Land just as much as I used to, and a little bit more. So basically, Disney Land is the best, so go visit. :)
And now, I need to join the table of people making farm animal noises and play tenzi.
